A new ‘kind’ of dairy

How Now Dairy is the ethical alternative to factory dairy milk. We believe a glass of milk is best served without the guilt! What does this mean? Well, to begin with, we keep all our calves with their mums from the time they are born.

The word dairy conjures up images of happy cows roaming lush green paddocks with frolicking baby calves nearby. Unfortunately that’s not the reality of the dairy industry, that’s just the advertisement.

The truth is, the total focus of the global dairy industry is production and output per animal. Its not the cows welfare or individuality, let alone their personality.

As for the newborn calves (known as ‘bobby calves’), in modern dairies, half of them (approximately 400,000 per year in Australia alone) are considered an inconvenient by-product and are killed at around five days old.

But remember that image of how we would like dairy to be? Well that’s where HOW NOW comes in.

We want to change what the world accepts as the norm in dairy production, and so we created a unique way of dairy farming.

It’s our dream that everyone can enjoy their milk, comfortable in the knowledge that the cows that produce it, and their calves, are treated with respect and kindness.

It might sound simple, but it’s pretty much a dairy revolution.

Over the past two years we have refined our ‘cow and calf should stay together’ idea and proven it’s not only possible to keep our bovine mums and their babies together in a commercial dairy, but it can also be spectacularly successful.

So far we’ve produced over 700,000 litres of milk without separating the calves from their mums and without killing a single bobby calf.

The cows themselves have shown us that this more natural way of managing them is better for their health and superior milk quality. Not to mention their happiness and sanity!

We are also doing things differently with our land.

We have developed a unique approach to regenerative farming. It starts with a simple question: how can we farm to maximise animal health and wellbeing? And it ends with amazing dairy produce from really contented cows.

Our Girls.

The health and happiness of our cows is the key to our superior quality milk, so we take an ethical cow-centred approach to dairy farming. Meet our happy cows!

Our Kids.

Our calves are our future, and we treat them with the respect and care they deserve. They stay with their mums and are free to roam around the beautiful farm, growing into healthy and happy cows. Meet our kids!
